Trading in Bridport since 1988, Duncan Skeels, a geography graduate and (now retired) teacher, developed an interest in oriental rugs whilst working in Iran in the 1970s. This was followed by 9 months travelling in Afghanistan and India. Purchase of oriental rugs started in 1988 on a trip to Quetta in Baluchistan, Pakistan, when a relationship developed with local carpet dealers.
The business developed and began trading in the present shop in 1992. Gradually the focus has shifted to selling older rugs which are cleaned on site, and some restored.
David Beale, a lifelong antiques dealer, joined the business about 10 years ago.
